Warning to not miss discounted energy bills scheme
National gas and energy company Macbrook Gas is reminding customers receiving certain means-tested benefits to ensure they are eligible for a £150 discount on their energy bills before the 23 August deadline.
The company, which delivers a number of Government-backed schemes to upgrade home energy solutions, is encouraging eligible households across England and Wales to not miss out on Warm Homes Discount.
Households can receive a £150 discount on their electricity bill through the government-backed scheme, helping to reduce energy costs during the winter months. To qualify automatically for the payment, customers must be receiving a qualifying benefit on 23 August 2026 and have their name, or their partner's name, listed on the electricity account.
Qualifying benefits include:
Universal Credit
Pension Credit (Guarantee Credit or Savings Credit)
Housing Benefit
Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA)
Income Support
Macbrook Gas is encouraging anyone who may qualify to check that their benefit details are up to date and that they are named on their electricity bill before the deadline.
Johnathan McKenna, CEO of Macbrook Gas, said: “Through our work delivering upgrade schemes, we see a lot of households who struggle with their energy bills. It can be really heartbreaking and we hear stories of people skipping meals or taking emergency loans to keep the lights on and their homes warm.
“Support from the Warm Home Discount can make a real difference during the colder months when energy use is higher. Anyone who thinks they may be eligible needs to take the steps now to ensure they don’t miss out. It only takes a few moments and can make the world of difference.
Customers can find more information about the Warm Home Discount Scheme and eligibility requirements on the government's website or speak to their energy supplier for further guidance.
